Introduction
Lower Shabelle
Development Organizations is a non-profit organization directed
by Intellectuals of Lower Shabelle Region, their life are
dedicated to help the people of Lower Shabelle Region with
relief and development programs. LSDO was created on 15 April
2000 in Merca (Somalia). Since its
creation LSDO has attracted the native of this region who live
abroad, were always willing to contribute to the development of
Lower Shabelle Region, its members increasing day by day. LSDO
had already positioned itself as major player in helping the
people of this region.
Organization
Background
On January 2000, a
group comprised by imminent and reputable individuals from
different background and community elders met at Merca
(Somalia). to establish a forum and to
discuss emergency situation encountered by the people of Lower
Shabelle Region.
Since the collapse of
the military regime and the subsequent of civil war, the
inhabitants of Lower Shabelle Region suffered greatly in
comparison with other parts of the country.
In the preliminary
discussions the members of forum exchanged information
pertaining to the people and region, debated and agreed
unanimously to form a committee to study the situation
In the proceeding
meeting it was agreed to establish board of Directors such as
the Executive Committee and Volunteer Committee Members.
Membership
Recruitment
A key component in most
successful non-profit organizations is the ongoing involvement
of the community; therefore an effective outreach strategy is a
precursor in recruiting more members to the organization. The
Board of Directors had agreed to use shabellahahoose.com (a
community website) as an outreach tool to publicize the
objectives of the organization and recruit more members to
interact and exchange ideas.
